Modelling Elasticity in Solids Using Active Cubes - Application to Simulated Operations

چکیده

This paper describes an approach to elastic modelling of human tissue based on the use of 3D solid active models active cubes [2] and a shape description based on the metric tensor in a solid. Active cubes are used because they provide a natural parameterization of the surface and the interior of the given object when deformed to match the object's shape. Using the metric tensor to store the shape of the deformed active cube the elastic behaviour of the object in response to applied forces or subject to constraints is modelled by minimizing an energy based on themetric tensor. The application of this approach to modelling the elastic deformation of human tissue in response to movement of bones is demonstrated. Active Nets and Cubes

Active models have attracted a considerable amount of interest in recent years. Many kinds of active contours and surfaces as well as energy minimization schemes have been presented. This paper describes two extensions of this family of active models called active nets [11] and active cubes. These models are 2D nets and 3D cubes of nodes controlled by physical models in the tradition of the SNA...

Three-dimensional BEM for transient dynamic analysis of piezoelectric and anisotropic elastic solids

A boundary element approach based on the Green’s functions in integral representation and the convolution quadrature method is presented. Proposed approach is designed for analyzing 3D initial boundary-value problems of the dynamics of general anisotropic elastic and piezoelectric linear homogeneous solids with mixed boundary conditions. Numerical modelling of transient dynamics of elastic anis...

Large-eddy simulation of turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubes submerged in an emulated atmospheric boundary-layer

Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...

Simulating the mechanical response of amorphous solids using atomistic methods

The study of elasticity, plasticity and failure in non-crystalline solids has greatly benefitted from the application of atomic scale simulation. This “colloquium paper” reviews the ways in which a variety of computational approaches have been used to elucidate the atomic scale phenomena that control the mechanics of amorphous solids. The constitutive theories that have been developed for descr...

Offsetting operations in solid modelling

The range of operations on solids supported by current geometric modelling systems is very limited. Typically, solids represented in a modeller can be transformed by rigid motions and combined by Boolean operations. This paper introduces another family of transformations, called solid offsetting, which map solids into solids. Offset solids are expanded or contracted versions of an original obje...
